An internationally recognised activist in the fight for women's equality, she spoke out for the legalisation of abortion, same-sex marriage, and equal pay. She began her journalism career in New York in the 1960s. Politically, she was an outspoken critic of Donald Trump, arguing that the US had taken many steps back when it came to women's rights.
