Lawmakers have pointed out that Friday’s disclosure represents only the first instalment of the material, with additional releases expected in the future, though no timeline has yet been established
According to the document, the object abruptly dimmed before vanishing from sight.
Officials stressed that these accounts were based solely on eyewitness observations and should not be taken as confirmation of the object’s actual nature or capabilities.
In a statement released alongside the materials, Hegseth said the administration remained committed to providing unprecedented transparency regarding the government’s understanding of UFOs.
A transcript of communications between Apollo 17 operators released in the disclosure Friday details the operators' exchange over the unknown phenomenon.
"Now we've got a few very bright particles or fragments or something that go drifting by as we maneuver," an operator told the command center.
"Roger. Understand," the center replied.

Trump celebrated the disclosure in a Truth Social post shortly after the files went live, saying he had directed federal agencies to release information tied to 'alien and extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), and unidentified flying objects (UFOs).' 'GOD BLESS AMERICA!' the president added.
The Trump administration on Friday made public its long‑anticipated cache of UFO materials, releasing hundreds of previously unseen videos, photos and documents connected to Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena.
The files were posted on the Department of War website months after President Donald Trump directed Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to declassify government records concerning UFOs and alleged extraterrestrial activity.
