Several US military jets have crashed in Kuwait, the country's Ministry of Defence has claimed. It said all crew members survived and were evacuated from the site this morning.

Search-and-rescue operations were immediately initiated by relevant authorities, according to Kuwait’s defence ministry spokesperson, Colonel Saud Al-Atwan. He said the crews were evacuating from the crash sites and transferred to hospital to assess their condition, where they were provided "necessary medical care". Their conditions were reported as “stable”.

Al-Atwan said Kuwait was in direct coordination with US authorities regarding the circumstances of the incident. He added that investigations were ongoing to determine the cause.

It comes after the US embassy in Kuwait told people to shelter at home. Reuters reported that smoke was seen rising from the US embassy area at around 6am GMT this morning.

"Do not come to the embassy," said the guidance published on its website. "Take cover in your residence on the lowest available floor and away from windows. Do not go outside."

It also urged US citizens in Kuwait to "shelter in place, review security plans in the event of an attack and stay alert in case of additional future attacks". It said that US embassy personnel "are sheltering in place".

Military strikes are now blazing in the Middle East. Over the last 48 hours, explosions have been heard in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha as Iran responds to the "massive" and ongoing strikes by the United States and Israel. Tehran said it would target US military assets in the region.

The latest conflict began on Saturday morning when Israel and the US launched an attack against Iran's leadership and military, with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei among those killed.
