At least two people have been killed and several others injured after a gunman opened fire in the heart and capital of the French Riviera this afternoon. The suspected shooter fired at people from a vehicle carrying two people in the Moulins district of Nice.
The shooter fired several times, according to French television network BFM. At this time it has been confirmed that two people have been killed and four others were injured. It is understood that the vehicle drove around the area before one of the occupants opened fire several times at Place des Amaryllis, before fleeing.

Emergency services rushed to the scene to secure the area, and nearby schools were placed into lockdown after multiple rounds of gunfire were reported.
The prosecutor's office has since confirmed that the schools have since reopened. Investigators are now believed to be examining possible links to organized crime and possible drug trafficking.
Éric Ciotti, the mayor of Nice, called the shooting "terrifying" adding that "several deaths" are to be reported.
He wrote on X: "A new terrifying shooting has just struck the Moulins district, Place des Amaryllis.
"Several deaths and injuries are, unfortunately, to be reported. The fight against drug trafficking cannot end in a defeat for the Republic!
"Nice is expecting an adequate response, particularly in terms of personnel, which has been sorely lacking in our city for years."
Residents of Nice have been urged by the Alpes-Maritimes prefect to avoid the local area which has been cordoned off as enquires continue.
The ongoing incident has caused traffic jams to form on the A8 motorway towards Saint Isidore.
