Ali Khamenei's wife has reportedly died after being wounded at the beginning of the US-Israeli Operation Epic Fury. Tasnim, an Iranian state news agency, announced the death of Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh on Monday, two days after the war in Iran started.

The agency wrote on the social media platform Telegram: "The martyrdom of the wife of the martyred leader of the revolution was confirmed." The leader's wife had been wounded in US-Israeli strikes early into the war, according to reports in Iran published byYNetGlobal. Other members of the family, including Khamenei's daughter, grandchild, and daughter-in-law, also died.

Bagherzadeh and Khameini had four sons and two daughters. The Iran's supreme leader was killed in US and Israeli strikes on Saturday. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been Iran's Supreme Leader since 1989. The 86-year-old was the most powerful man in Iran as head of state and commander-in-chief of its military. He was also in charge of the powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) paramilitary.

Iran was rebuilding infrastructure for its nuclear programme that was destroyed in last year’s strikes, according to a senior US, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The war is now spreading in the Middle East as Israel launched attacks on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon today (March 2). The Lebanese health ministry has claimed at least 31 people were killed and several more were left injured following the attack.

Israel started attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon after the Iran-affiliated group claimed responsibility for strikes on an Israeli missile defence site. This operation is now part of the US and Israeli strikes in Iran, which were first launched as part of Operation Epic Fury on Saturday. Since then, Iran has hit several countries in the Middle East, and a drone strike targeted a RAF base in Cyprus.

Officials said RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus was continuing to operate as normal despite the attack but family members of personnel had been moved away from the base as a precaution.

Paphos International Airport in Cyprus has been urgently evacuated earlier today (March 2) after reports of a possible drone threat in the Paphos area. This came after the attack on the RAF base in the country and after easyJet cancelled all its flights to Cyprus.

This prompted a reaction from Greece, which said today it will send two frigates and two F-16 fighter jets to Cyprus as security concerns around the Mediterranean island continue to grow.

More than 100,000 Britons are beleived to be in the Middle East at present. They are being advised to follow the instructions of local authorities and monitor the Foreign Office’s travel advice, which officials expect to change rapidly.
